This weekend, I took part in the Aqua Paddle race in Stratford-upon-Avon, a 5km paddleboarding challenge down the River Avon. I’m thrilled to share that I finished in 1st place among the paddleboard entries, completing the race in 43 minutes!
For those unfamiliar, Aqua Paddle is a free 5km timed paddle event designed for all skill levels. These races are held across various waterways, promoting mental well-being and physical health through paddle sports. It’s an incredible community-driven event, making the victory even sweeter.
The race itself was both exciting and demanding. The River Avon was calm, the perfect setting for a thrilling race. My strategy was to maintain a steady pace while staying focused, and it paid off as I took an early lead. By the halfway point, I knew I had a chance to win, so I pushed myself hard to stay ahead, finishing strong.
Beyond the race, Aqua Paddle offers more than just competition—it fosters a sense of community, encouraging everyone, from beginners to seasoned paddlers, to get on the water and enjoy the benefits of paddle sports. The organization also supports “BlueSpace” activities, which provide paddling therapy sessions for individuals seeking to improve their mental and physical health.
This race not only tested my endurance but reminded me of how much progress I’ve made since diving into paddleboarding and fitness through my Peloton regimen. Crossing the finish line with a winning time was an incredible feeling, and I can’t wait for the next Aqua Paddle event!
